About the Role

**Role description** Lead I, Software Engineering Our teams combine innovation, agility, and engineering excellence across healthcare, financial services, insurance, retail, manufacturing, telecommunications, and other industries. You Are You are a hands\-on .NET technical leader who can turn complex business requirements and legacy application landscapes into secure, maintainable enterprise solutions. You own .NET solution architecture, technical direction, engineering standards, team enablement, and end\-to\-end delivery accountability. You can assess an unfamiliar codebase, make defensible modernization and design decisions, guide engineers through implementation, and step into code to resolve critical problems. You use AI\-first engineering to improve delivery while maintaining ownership of correctness and quality. The Opportunity Architecture \& Builder Mode • Solution architecture ownership. Define application boundaries, service contracts, data flows, integration patterns, and non\-functional requirements. Produce practical high\-level and low\-level designs and architecture decisions that engineers can implement. • Modern .NET engineering. Lead design and development using C\#, ASP.NET Core, Web API, dependency injection, asynchronous programming, and appropriate architectural patterns. Establish maintainable code structure, error handling, validation, and testability. • Legacy modernization. Assess .NET Framework and legacy application portfolios, dependencies, libraries, and deployment constraints. Define incremental migration strategies to supported .NET versions, including compatibility analysis, regression protection, and safe cutover or rollback. • Enterprise integration. Own API, database, messaging, and external\-system integration design. Guide data access, transaction boundaries, authentication, authorization, and reliable communication across applications and services. • AI\-DLC operating model. Use Claude Code, Codex, or comparable tools for repository analysis, specifications, implementation, refactoring, and test generation. Establish approved agent instructions, coding rules, and human verification gates for the team. • End\-to\-end delivery. Translate architecture into workstreams, estimates, dependencies, and executable tasks. Lead implementation, integration, testing, release readiness, and production handover in partnership with QA, UX, DevOps, security, and customer stakeholders. Firefighter Mode • A legacy application must move to a modern .NET runtime. You identify compatibility risks, prioritize a viable migration path, validate critical functionality, and make the cutover plan defensible. • A production API slows down or fails intermittently. You use traces, logs, metrics, profiling, and database evidence to isolate the bottleneck, implement a fix, and verify the result. • An AI\-assisted refactor introduces a regression or violates an architectural constraint. You review the change, reproduce the defect, correct the design, and strengthen the relevant tests and guardrails. • A release is blocked by an integration, security, or deployment issue. You coordinate the right teams, make the technical tradeoffs explicit, and drive a verified resolution without bypassing required controls. Systems Thinker Mode • Architecture and design discipline. Apply clean architecture, SOLID principles, domain\-driven design where appropriate, modular monolith or microservice patterns, and well\-defined interfaces. Avoid unnecessary complexity and select patterns based on actual requirements. • Performance and reliability. Design for throughput, latency, resilience, concurrency, resource usage, and fault isolation. Use appropriate caching, retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, and database optimization with measurable validation. • Security and governance. Enforce secure coding, least privilege, secrets management, dependency and licensing policies, authentication/authorization, data protection, and approved AI\-tool usage. Partner with security teams on relevant threat and risk assessments. • Team enablement. Mentor engineers, conduct design and code reviews, define reusable libraries and engineering standards, and break complex work into clear ownership and acceptance criteria. Build team capability rather than becoming the delivery bottleneck. • Delivery and production accountability. Own technical risks, quality gates, dependencies, and release readiness. Establish observability, operational runbooks, rollback procedures, and measurable indicators such as defect trends, cycle time, rework, and service reliability. Minimum Qualifications • Experience. Typically 7\+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in technical leadership, solution design, or ownership of enterprise application delivery. Equivalent demonstrated experience will be considered. • Education. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. A Master's degree is an advantage. • Core .NET expertise. Strong hands\-on C\# and .NET experience, including production ASP.NET Core services, object\-oriented design, APIs, relational databases, debugging, automated testing, and software architecture. • Leadership and delivery. Proven ability to guide engineers, own technical decisions, work with customer stakeholders, and deliver production systems. Practical experience with AI\-assisted engineering and its validation and governance requirements. Technical Toolkit We value demonstrated technical depth and the ability to learn adjacent technologies—not superficial familiarity with every tool listed below. • Languages and application frameworks. C\#, supported .NET/.NET Framework versions, ASP.NET Core, Web API, Entity Framework Core, LINQ, asynchronous programming, dependency injection, and relevant testing frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest. • Architecture and integration. Clean architecture, domain\-driven design, REST APIs, microservices and modular monoliths, event\-driven integration, messaging, API gateways, and architecture decision records. Familiarity with gRPC or GraphQL is useful where applicable. • Data and performance. SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or comparable relational databases; EF Core and SQL performance tuning, indexing, transactions, caching, profiling, and application observability. • Cloud and deployment. Experience deploying .NET workloads on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud; Docker, CI/CD, configuration management, identity and access integration, logs, metrics, and production troubleshooting. Kubernetes familiarity is an advantage. • Modernization and quality. .NET Framework\-to\-modern\-.NET migration, dependency and compatibility assessment, automated unit/integration/contract testing, code review, static analysis, security scanning, and release/rollback practices. • AI\-first engineering. Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or comparable tools; repository\-aware development, specification\-driven workflows, agent instructions/skills, context engineering, and reviewable AI\-generated changes. • Engineering leadership. Git, GitHub or Azure DevOps, Agile delivery, technical estimation, design reviews, mentoring, documentation, and cross\-functional coordination with QA, UX, platform, and security teams. Preferred Qualifications • Experience leading complex .NET modernization, application decomposition, or cloud migration programs in consulting or customer\-facing environments. • Experience with enterprise authentication, multi\-tenant applications, regulated environments, or high\-volume transactional systems. • Experience establishing reusable .NET accelerators, architecture standards, automated quality gates, or governed AI\-DLC engineering practices. • Relevant Microsoft, cloud, software architecture, or AI\-platform certifications; open\-source contributions or technical community leadership. **Skills** .NET, CI/CD, SQL, GitHub Copilot **About UST** UST is a global digital transformation solutions provider.
