We help the company understand and adapt to a changing environment, anticipate and respond to challenges, and advocate for the needs of our users and the online economy.  We believe that government policies play a key role in economic progress and innovation around the world and that business should play a transparent, constructive and ethical role in solving complex problems. At Stripe, we strive to be a trusted resource to policy makers and stakeholders around the world.</p> <h2><strong>What you’ll do</strong></h2> <h3><strong>Responsibilities</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Support State and Local Public Policy, which involves bringing together cross-functional groups within the company to spot issues and understand the impact to Stripe, building a strategy to address Stripe’s key issues at the state level, and working with trade associations and coalitions to advance policy issues important to Stripe and our users</li> <li>Foster state and local political relationships </li> <li>Hire and manage consultants</li> <li>Coordinate Stripe political giving at the state and local level</li> <li>Build a strategic network of peers among Stripe users and similarly situated fintechs to engage in coordinated advocacy at the state and local level</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Who you are</strong></h2> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.</span></p> <h3><strong>Minimum requirements</strong></h3> <ul> <li>5-8 years experience working in public policy, including with state legislative & regulatory issues in a public sector or private sector position</li> <li>Availability for regular travel </li> <li>Strong political connections in a key Stripe market (e.g., ideally California)</li> <li>A combination of political savvy and the ability to go deep into complex policy issues, especially in financial services, payments regulation, and artificial intelligence </li> <li>Demonstrated experience advocating across many states in front of legislators, regulators, attorneys general, and governors, including their respective political and policy associations </li> <li>Demonstrated experience in coalition building, trade association coordination, and managing state consultants</li> <li>A “start up mentality”: a willingness to roll up your sleeves, iterate, challenge the status quo, take chances and learn</li> <li>Humility and commitment to teamwork</li> <li>Strong communication (both written and verbal) skills</li> <li>Strong strategic thinking, creativity, and able to  juggle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment </li> <li>Availability to travel ~30-40% annually</li> </ul> <h3><strong>Preferred qualifications</strong></h3> <ul> <li>Industry knowledge or passion for payments, tech, and financial services.</li> <li>A strong interest in entrepreneurship, preferably based on experience working with startups, founders, etc.</li> <li>The ideal candidate is an outstanding communicator, a creative problem-solver, has strong public policy experience, and works exceptionally well with Legal, Regulatory, Comms and other functions, and across various geographies.</li> </ul>
